I would really be interested in reading that book about building a better blog in 31 days. I've always wanted to start my own, but I can't think of a topic that's interesting enough!

Just like Lisbeth, I can live without a TV. What I can't live without is my cell phone and the Internet since I may want to ask someone something through text message and the cable Internet line is for business purposes for me. I own a laptop while everybody else in the house have a desktop.
I currently don't own a car and it's somewhat hard for me to travel without one so I use my hon's truck when I needed to take the kids somewhere or something.
Congrats on getting things to work for you.
I love Value Village, TJ Maxx and Marshall's. Some of my books came from Marshall's and there's one within my walking area. If I needed to head there, I can just walk there. I still have an ottoman chair which I bought at Marshall's/ And inside it, there's a smaller version. I bought it for $25. What a cool deal. And as for goodwill? I recently bought a couple of books there too and I'm in Seattle. We got like 4 or 5 Goodwill in the area. I think.

Thanks Lisbeth. I agree there are definitely somethings worth splurging on. We spend a little extra for high speed cable, too; we cut down on the amount of cable channels we get though.

We have a store here called Value Village and it has some great finds. And in the town I'm moving to there is a store that has really cheap but new stuff.

I think the key is to figure out what is worth spending more for and what you can get away with buying for less.

Danielle, All valid and very good points about living a more conservative lifestyle. I have yet to resort to dumpster diving, but I do buy at second hand and Goodwill. Another area people often splurge is on cable/satellite TV. Personally, I could live easily without a TV, but I live with someone who can't. The other splurge is a cable modem, but that is a business necessity for me. There so many ways people can cut their spending if they really take a hard look. And - as you point out - it's better to do that long before you make the leap out of a stable position.

Congratulations on making this work!
